What we collect

We count page visits, guide clicks, retailer clicks, YouTube clicks and newsletter actions on our own server. Events contain page paths, a referral-source label, campaign labels and link placement; they do not contain your email, full referring URL or retailer query string. These counts describe activity, not unique people or confirmed purchases. We respect the browser’s Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control settings for these events.

If you request the weekly garden email, we store your email, signup source, confirmation status and delivery records. You join only after confirming by email. An unsubscribe link is included in every issue. Short-lived hashed network identifiers help limit signup abuse; raw addresses are not stored in the signup database. Server access logs may separately contain connection information.

Affiliate links

Rude Insect participates in affiliate programs including Amazon Associates and Awin (publisher 2896019). When you click affiliate links and make a purchase, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Retailers may set cookies and share aggregate (non-personally-identifying) transaction data with us. We never see your payment details.

Cookies

We store your theme preference in local storage and referral campaign labels for the current browser tab in session storage. Our event counter does not use analytics cookies. Embedded YouTube videos and retailers have their own privacy practices.
