Define which goats will use it
Record the number, size and life stage of the animals and whether they will be confined for long periods. Consider horned animals, social competition, kidding, separation needs and access to outdoor space. Obtain a housing recommendation appropriate to that herd from local Extension rather than applying one square-foot figure to every goat.

Measure actual protected floor area. Subtract storage, inaccessible corners and equipment. For an arithmetic example, an 8-by-10-foot footprint is 80 square feet; it does not establish capacity for a particular number of goats. A seller’s head-count claim needs the assumptions behind it.

Resolve drainage before assembly
Observe the site after rain. Plan roof runoff and surrounding grade so water does not cross the resting area. Confirm whether the selected structure needs a specific pad, foundation or anchoring arrangement. “Spring soil is softer” is not a reason to assume ground anchors will hold.
Allow access for bedding delivery, manure removal and emergency animal handling. Rehearse the route with the equipment you will use. A low doorway can make routine care difficult even if the nominal floor area is generous.
Keep feed and water from becoming contaminated and avoid designs that force subordinate animals into a trapped corner. Where separation is needed, design gates and partitions as part of the housing rather than improvising after animals arrive.

Get the price for the exact shelter, delivery, unloading, ground preparation, anchoring, assembly, gates and replacement covers or panels. Confirm whether hardware shown in photos is included. Do not compare a bare frame with a completed, anchored building as though they were equivalent.
